The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the Directorate General of Irrigation and Rural Development has awarded the City of Aledo two grants totaling 49,100 euros from the Community Initiatives Leader for the rehabilitation and improvement of the environment and Turret installing an information panel next to the medieval wall that provides visitors about the history of the town.
The actions carried out in the vicinity of The Turret, located on the western side of town, have focused on cleaning up trash and debris, removal of appliances, garbage and abandoned objects, as well as pruning and clearing of plant material.
It has also carried out the restoration of ancient paths that had already been buried building a small retaining wall in turn acts as a lookout.
In addition, there have been actions for the promotion of public and recreational use by installing sleepers and steel cables that act as barriers fall protection between different heights and mounting bins and space for bicycle parking.
These actions have been undertaken through a project that has seven unemployed labor in the construction sector.
The second line of action has enabled the installation of an explanatory panel on the origins and history of the town as well as the remains of the medieval fortification.
This tourist signage is located on Calle San Ramon, facing the walled old town.
These projects included in the Rural Development Programme for the Region of Murcia 2007-2013, have been carried out in order to promote both the local economy and the presence of visitors in the area.
The Director General of Irrigation and Rural Development, Julio Bernal, highlighted the benefits to the region the European initiative Leader, since such projects "have a great tourist incidence in rural areas and involve the promotion of these municipalities."
These projects have been managed by the Integrated Local Action Group, Society for Rural Development, which deals with the socio-economic development of the regions of Northwest River Mula, districts high Lorca and Espuña.
