On Sunday October 20, the town of Aledo commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of the image of their patron saint, Santa María la Real.
After a novena of preparation, the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Bishop Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, presided on Sunday at 12:00 pm, a solemn Eucharist in which hundreds of nearby and visitors.
The celebration took place at the foot of the Tower of Homage in Aledo Castle Square, the same place where 50 years ago the image of the Virgin was crowned.
Among the worshipers were the Minister of Education, Universities and Job, D.
Pedro Antonio Sánchez, Mayor of Aledo, D.
Simón Alcaraz, as well as various military authorities.
The bishop in his homily stressed the role of Mary to keep alive the hope that man needs both today and encouraged the faithful to look into it his refuge.
In the afternoon of Sunday, the image of Santa María la Real toured the medieval streets of the town accompanied by all the people of Aledo.
