The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the District Agricultural Office (OCA) of Lower Guadalentín, takes a test seedless table grape variety Crimson feet on three different American vines, the estate collaborator 'El Gallo' , in the town of Aledo.
The aim is to find out on which foot will perform better in terms of production and color.
It shuffles the possible use of such alternative seedless variety in this town, which still has a significant production of grape seed, mainly of the variety Dominga.
The CEO of agribusiness and agricultural training, Lidón Angel Garcia, said that "the Region of Murcia has been very innovative in betting on the varieties of seedless table grapes."
However, he noted the need for trials "to solve problems that may present new varieties before deciding farmers put on their fields."
In this regard, he noted that "the experimental techniques ranging from cultivation to pest control and resolution of problems such as lack of coloration of grapes and grain size, very important issues facing the development of new varieties ".
The official also stressed the importance autonomic cultivation of table grapes in the region Guadalentín Valley, with 3,200 hectares distributed between the municipalities of Aledo, Alhama de Murcia, Aguilas, Librilla, Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras and Totana, representing the 59 percent of the regional acreage.
Test
The test is carried out in an experimental plot of 0.2 hectares.
It consists of eight vines, each framed 4x3 meters, with three replications, were randomly chosen four vines / repeat for control.
The irrigation system is drip.
The streets are maintained on mechanical cultivation, as it is considered the best system for optimum use of rainwater, besides being the cheapest.
Special attention is given to the number of sprouted buds per vine, number of clusters and kilos of grapes, the color, the average weight of berry, the wood kilos per vine pruning, and the dates of budding, flowering, veraison and maturation.
