The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Jesus Navarro, today called in the Plenum of the Regional Assembly to urge the Government of Spain to enable a budget item under the Royal Decree of Drought of the Segura Basin, so that The desalinated water for irrigation arrives until the municipality of Aledo, from desaladoras of Eagles or Torrevieja.
The motion has been approved.
Aledo is a municipality with a population located in the lower Guadalentín and has about 1,000 inhabitants, whose economic activity is centered in 90 percent in agriculture.
This municipality, which has an irrigation perimeter of 1,400 hectares, was left outside the irrigation system of the Trasvase.
Irrigated agriculture in the municipality of Aledo is suffering the same problems as in neighboring municipalities, with the drawback that the only water supply for irrigation comes from wells, which have lowered the level of exploitation in an important and worrying way in The last years, without the possibility of external contributions, because there is no infrastructure that connects the perimeter of irrigation with possible external sources of water, such as the Trasvase Tajo Segura, with which the municipalities mentioned above.
Navarro explained that the main crop of the municipality of Aledo is table grapes, whose harvest has been saved thanks to emergency wells, without which, would have been lost in its entirety in the last 3-4 years.
Aledo's irrigation companies have contributed greatly to the recovery of over-exploited aquifers in the basin, giving up 20% of the water available to them, of one cubic hectometre, for the good of the same.
Navarro argued in his motion that since Aledo irrigation societies could not become a Community of Irrigators, they have never had subsidies or any kind of public aid in order to undertake the necessary irrigation modernization works.
Aledo was a pioneer in establishing drip irrigation and regulation ponds in the years 1986 to 1988, even the emergency wells that saved the table grape harvest from 2012 to 2015 were made with own funds.
The municipality of Aledo is not included in the works in progress of the water from the Desaladora de Águilas to Totana.
In order for this water to reach Aledo's irrigation system, it would be necessary to construct a pipeline, which is connected to the one being built by the Ministry of Agriculture, somewhere in the Totana area.
Navarro said that another option for the desalination water to reach Aledo irrigation would be that it comes from the desalination plant in Torrevieja, through the Tajo-Segura transfer, using a pipe that built the Commonwealth Channels of Taibilla to raise the water of mouth To Aledo and that is not used, making an elevation from the same to its passage by the municipality of Totana, option to consider by the organisms responsible for being the most economic.
